The Porkuni Limestone Museum
The pot of gold of the Estonian people!
The Porkuni Limestone Museum gives visitors an overview of how Estonia’s national rock was formed millions of years ago. The museum also presents the history and legends of Porkuni.
Visitors can get an overview of the formation of limestone, its mining, its use as a building material and the history of lime production, in the gate tower of the historic Porkuni Bishop’s Castle. You can also explore fascinating fossils and get acquainted with a collection of the rock types of Estonia.
In addition to limestone, the museum also highlights local history, legends, and local cultural figures.
