Ilon’s Wonderland

A glimpse into the world of beloved books

In Ilon’s Wonderland, visitors, both young and old, can experience the world of drawings by Ilon Wikland, the illustrator of Astrid Lindgren’s beloved children’s books. Ilon’s Wonderland is located in the small town of Haapsalu, where Wikland lived with her grandparents in her childhood before fleeing to Sweden during the Second World War.

In addition to original drawings, you can learn about Wikland’s inspiring life story. During the winter season, a three-story building is open to visitors, which includes a gallery, cinema, and exhibition hall, as well as Ilon’s kitchen and a playroom for crafts. Various thematic days are organized for visitors as well. You can look at Karlsson’s room, find familiar book characters everywhere, and just enjoy yourself by spending the day with your family.

In the summer, the Wonderland’s Garden is also open as well as Mattias’ house and a craft workshop, where you can make crafts from paper and wood. In the garden, you can test your skills in precision throwing, walking on stilts, fishing, and sandbox games. The Kukli Mukli kiosk can also be found in the garden, which offers delicious and refreshing ice cream.
