Kumu Art Museum
Meaningful preservation of Estonian art
The Kumu Art Museum, which is located in the headquarters of the Art Museum of Estonia, is one of the largest and most impressive exhibition spaces in Estonia. The museum provides a survey of the various time periods of Estonian art: from the Academic Style to Modernism, from Soviet Pop Art to contemporary art. The exciting contemporary architecture of the building, which was designed by the Finnish architect Pekka Vapaavuori, is an attraction in its own right.
Kumu views its role as being an initiator of a social and cultural debate in connection with both expositions of art history and events in the Gallery of Contemporary Art, which has become an incubator for new ideas for domestic and foreign artists.
The Kumu Art Museum has received the European Museum of the Year award and is the first Estonian museum that has received the green museum label.
