The Vana-Võromaa Museum and Art Gallery
A gateway to the springs of Võru culture
The exhibition of the Vana-Võromaa (Old Võru) Museum provides a comprehensive overview of Võru County’s history from ancient times to the middle of the 20th century. You can learn about the ancient settlement of Tamula, the development of the Võro language, the founding of the city of Võru, and the economic and cultural history of Võru County. Numerous archaeological findings, ethnographic objects, and historical documents and photographs tell the fascinating stories.
You can find out what an old farmer’s house looked like, see a cobbler’s and an organ maker’s workshops or a bushwhackers’ bunker. There is also a model of a smoke sauna and folk costumes of Old Võromaa on display.
The Art Gallery organizes various exhibitions where the primary purpose is to introduce artists related to the region of Vana-Võromaa, but you can also see the works of artists from other locations.
