Sometimes that story is so extraordinary that you no longer see only the beauty of the object\u2014you see the person behind it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">One such discovery is the Estonian National Museum\u2019s silk scarf, <em><strong>Memory Quilt<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"990\" height=\"1320\" src=\"https:\/\/muuseumikaart.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/ChatGPT-Image-Jun-30-2026-03_21_24-PM-990x1320.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-37403\" srcset=\"https:\/\/muuseumikaart.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/ChatGPT-Image-Jun-30-2026-03_21_24-PM-990x1320.png 990w, https:\/\/muuseumikaart.ee\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/ChatGPT-Image-Jun-30-2026-03_21_24-PM.png 1086w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 990px) 100vw, 990px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">The pattern on this scarf is neither a designer\u2019s creation nor a historical ornament. It comes from a real quilt whose embroidery was completed over the course of nearly twenty years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">After the Second World War, Estonian refugee Anne-Reet P\u00f5ld-Veemees received a grey military blanket from American soldiers while living in a refugee camp in Germany. It kept her warm at night. During the day, she began embroidering it with whatever yarn she could find. She continued stitching throughout her journey\u2014from Germany to England, and later to Canada. Only when every inch of the blanket had been embroidered did she finally put down her needle. It was 1964.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">What moves me most about this story is the thought that, in the midst of losing her home, facing an uncertain future and living in an unfamiliar world, one person found the strength to create something beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Today, the embroidered blanket is preserved in the collections of the Estonian National Museum. A detail from it has been transformed into this silk scarf, which is also available in the Museum Card flagship shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">I like to think that this scarf carries more than just a beautiful pattern. It carries resilience, hope, and memories.
