The idea for the museum dates back to <strong>2004<\/strong>, when I was working at Elion. Seeing large amounts of old telecommunications equipment being discarded inspired me to start collecting and preserving this unique part of Estonia&#8217;s technological history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">The museum features a wide range of historic telecommunications and computer equipment, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list wp-el\">\n<li>a telephone exchange from 1969,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>telephone cross-connect systems,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>vintage telephones,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>radio telephones,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>public payphones and original phone booths,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>overhead telephone line equipment,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>postal collection boxes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>early laptops and desktop computers dating back to the 1980s.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">An extension to the museum building is currently under construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">The collection also includes original memorabilia, large signs and historic building logos from <strong>Eesti Telefon, Elion, Microlink, EMT, Telekom<\/strong> and <strong>Hallo<\/strong> stores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Visitors can explore a collection of <strong>hundreds of mobile phones<\/strong>, including early NMT mobile phones. On display are also a 3G outdoor base station, mobile antennas, a <strong>13-metre mobile phone mast<\/strong>, SIM cards, as well as promotional items and souvenirs from telecommunications companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading wp-el\">Why should you visit the Communication &amp; Laptop Museum?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Do your children know what telephones looked like before the era of smartphones?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Can they use a rotary dial telephone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Do they know what your very first mobile phone looked like?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Do you know what a 2G, 3G or 4G antenna looks like \u2013 the technology that provides the signal to your mobile phone?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Have you ever sent or received a fax? Or do you remember what a pager was?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">The museum also features a fascinating collection of vintage laptops and early personal computers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Located in <strong>Mustahamba village, R\u00f5uge Parish<\/strong>, Southern Estonia, the museum offers a unique and nostalgic experience for visitors of all ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-el wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone who has made the short <strong>12-kilometre journey south of Suur Munam\u00e4gi<\/strong> has left delighted.
